The Sdkfz 179 Bergepanther was a German armored recovery vehicle based on the Panther tank chassis. It was designed to recover and repair damaged tanks on the battlefield, as well as to tow heavy loads. The Bergepanther had a crew of five and was equipped with a winch, a crane, a dozer blade and various tools. It could also carry spare parts and fuel for other vehicles.
The Bergepanther was first produced in 1943 and saw service in all fronts until the end of the war. It was regarded as one of the best recovery vehicles of its time, due to its powerful engine, high mobility and large capacity.
