OT-62 TOPAS is a series of amphibious tracked armoured personnel carriers developed by Poland and Czechoslovakia in the 1960s. The name TOPAS stands for Transporter Opancerzony Pływający Amfibia Składana, which means Armoured Amphibious Transporter with Foldable Amphibious Equipment. The vehicle is based on the Soviet PT-76 light tank chassis, but with a modified hull and a new turret.
Den OT-62 TOPAS can carry up to 12 infantrymen in addition to the three crew members. It is armed with a 14.5 mm KPVT heavy machine gun and a 7.62 mm PKT coaxial machine gun. The vehicle has a water jet propulsion system that allows it to swim at speeds of up to 10 km/h. The OT-62 TOPAS was used by the armies of Poland, Czechoslovakia, East Germany, Iraq, Libya, Sudan and Syria. It saw combat in several conflicts, such as the Six-Day War, the Yom Kippur War, the Iran-Iraq War and the Gulf War.
