The Sikorsky MH-53 Pave Low series is a long-range combat search and rescue (CSAR) helicopter for the United States Air Force. The series was upgraded from the HH-53B/C, variants of the Sikorsky CH-53 Sea Stallion. The HH-53 “Super Jolly Green Giant” was initially developed to replace the HH-3 “Jolly Green Giant”. The helicopters later transitioned to Special Operations missions. The U.S. Air Force’s MH-53J/M fleet was retired in September 2008.

Περισσότερες πληροφορίες:
The Sikorsky MH-53 is a series of helicopters that were used by the United States Air Force for special operations and combat search and rescue missions. The MH-53 was derived from the CH-53 Sea Stallion, a heavy-lift helicopter developed by Sikorsky Aircraft Corporation. The MH-53 had several variants, such as the HH-53B, the HH-53C, and the MH-53J/M Pave Low. The MH-53 had a crew of six, including two pilots, two flight engineers, and two gunners. The MH-53 could also carry up to 37 troops or 16,000 kg of cargo in its cabin or on an external sling. The MH-53 was equipped with advanced avionics, sensors, and defensive systems that enabled it to operate in low-level, night, and adverse weather conditions. The MH-53 also had a retractable in-flight refueling probe and external fuel tanks that extended its range and endurance. The MH-53 was armed with three pintle-mounted machine guns, one on each side of the fuselage and one on the tail ramp. The MH-53 was retired from service in 2008, after more than 40 years of distinguished service.
