It was derived from the civilian CW-22 design, which was also sold to several foreign air forces. The SNC-1 had a low-wing monoplane configuration with retractable tailwheel landing gear and a two-seat cockpit with a large canopy. It was powered by a Wright R-975 Whirlwind radial engine that drove a two-blade propeller.
