The US Army entered WWII with the M3 Stuart Light Tank, which worked well, but was tall and noisy. Not ideal features of a reconnaissance vehicle and not rectified in the later M5 series. A new Light Tank was specified in 1943 using the M5 powertrain, but with a sleek new hull and turret. This was to emerge as the Light Tank M24. The noisy VVSS was replaced with a new torsion bar suspension, and weight was kept to 20 tons. Firepower was greatly increased by mounting a light weight 75mm gun using the same ammunition as the M4 Sherman. The M24 was well received by its crews, but it arrived too late to see much action, the first tanks arriving in Europe by November 1944. A few were passed on to the British and Free French before the war ended. Armour was up to 25mm thick and the road speed up to 56k/mh, maximum road range was 161 kilometers. A total of 4,731 M24’s were built by the end of WWII. The chassis was used for a whole range of Self-Propelled Guns and weapon carriers.

During the second World War the Gothaer Waggonfabrik A.G. Company was mainly engaged with the construction of aircrafts designed by other aircraft manufacturing companies. The GO. 242 is one of few aircrafts entirely designed and constructed by the Gothaer Waggonfabrik A.G. Company during the above period. It is a large mixed-cargo transport glider caracterized by an original double tail boom structure. The GO. 242 glider, in its two best known versions A-1 and B-1, that differed in the landing unit only, was towed off by the Junkers Ju.52/3m or by the Heinkel He. 111-Z, the latter being obtained by combining two He.111. Both model GO. 242 and model GO. 244 were used on African, Russian and European fronts as weil as in training schools.

MC.200 Saetta 2a serie

A model of the brand ITALERI the kit MC.200 Saetta 2a serie – ITALERI 2711.

The Macchi MC 200 was the most common Italian fighter used by the Italian Regia Aeronautica during World War II. More than 1,150 MC 200, in various versions, had been produced by Macchi during the War. It has been used on all main fronts, from the Mediterranean area to Russia. Based on the same Fiat G-50 all-metal construction technology, with it shared the two row 14 cylinder air cooled radial engine A-74 RC 38, the “Saetta” was preferred by pilots for its maneuverability and sturdiness.

The engine, incorporated into the characteristic bulged cover, combined with the three-bladed propeller, could provide 840 HP. However, compared to the Allied more modern fighters, Mc 200 was underpowered and under armed. These two weaknesses were solved with the next generation of fighters such as the Macchi MC 202 and MC 205.

Japanese Battleship Yamato

The model may be assembled as either a waterline or full-hull display model. New parts: the ship’s foredeck, sides, and stern have new details based on the latest research. The included small screws allow secure attachment of the hull and deck. 90% of the deck components are molded separately to allow greater realism. Separate parts also make it easier for modelers to paint and finish. These parts include; superstructure details and anti-aircraft guns. Main gun turrets can be rotated freely. They feature interiors as well as turret mount details below the deck level. Poly-caps enable the switching of gun barrel parts for different display poses. The choices are; (30-degree or 3-degree elevation) The Canvas covers at the base of the main guns and sand bags for the AA gun positions are made with elastomer. The use of elastomer plastic depicts those parts more faithfully and naturally. Rotation and gun elevation of secondary armament and both 12.7mm and 25mm AA gun mounts is possible. Mast components are made from ABS plastic for greater durability and are less brittle. Photo-etched parts for ladders and radars included. The model is equipped with metal propeller shafts. Poly-cap attachment allows the rudder to be movable. Reconnaissance seaplanes and various small boats equipped on the Yamato are included. The boat hangar door may be depicted in either open or closed position. Degaussing cables specific to the Yamato are planned to be included with the kit. (tentative)

All-new 1/350 scale model of the Japanese Battleship Yamato as she appeared in her last and final sortie to Okinawa. The original was a motorized kit that was released in 1979 and followed up by a non-motorized version in 2005. The latest model version is based on the latest research information that Tamiya’s model makers have been able to find. Items such as the hull and superstructure have been given new details based on new information gathered and new information discovered about the Yamato.
