Valokuvagalleria M5 Puolimatka, The M5 Half-track (officially the Carrier, Personnel Half-track M5) was an American armored personnel carrier in use during World War II. It was developed in 1942 when existing manufacturers of the M2 Half Track Car, and M3 Half-track could not keep up with production demand. International Harvester (IH) had capacity to produce a similar vehicle to the M3 but some differences from it had to be accepted. The M5 was produced by IH from December 1942 to October 1943.

Lisätietoja:

The M5 Halftrack was a variant of the M3 Half-track, an American armored personnel carrier that was widely used by the Allies during World War II and in the Cold War. The M5 Halftrack was developed in 1942 by International Harvester, when the existing manufacturers of the M2 and M3 could not keep up with the production demand. The M5 Halftrack had some differences from the M3, such as a different engine, a sloped rear, and a slightly longer chassis.
The M5 Halftrack was mainly supplied to Allied nations under Lend-Lease, such as the British Commonwealth, France, and the Soviet Union. The M5 Halftrack was used in various roles, such as troop transport, artillery tractor, anti-aircraft platform, and ambulance. The M5 Halftrack was also modified by some users, such as Israel, which developed several versions of the vehicle for its wars in the Middle East. The M5 Halftrack was a reliable and versatile vehicle that served in many theaters of war and remained in service for decades after World War II.
