Keď bol uvedený na trh v roku 2007 ako model z roku 2008, bol oficiálne známy ako Ranger RZR, pretože sa predával ako podmodel väčšieho, pracovne orientovaného Rangera. Keď si RZR získal popularitu, Polaris nakoniec upustil od označenia Ranger a umiestnil RZR ako samostatný model.
