The ATS-59G Artillery Tractor is a heavy-duty vehicle designed to tow large-caliber artillery pieces and transport ammunition and crew. It was developed in the Soviet Union in the late 1950s and entered service in the early 1960s. The ATS-59G is based on the chassis of the T-54 tank, but has a modified suspension, a diesel engine, and a cab with a canvas roof. The vehicle can carry up to 11 tons of cargo or tow up to 25 tons of artillery. It has a maximum speed of 50 km/h on roads and 30 km/h off-road. The ATS-59G is equipped with a winch, a crane, and a spade for stabilizing the vehicle when towing heavy guns. The ATS-59G was widely used by the Soviet Army and its allies in various conflicts, such as the Vietnam War, the Arab-Israeli wars, and the Afghan War. It was also exported to several countries, such as Egypt, Iraq, Syria, and North Korea. The ATS-59G is still in service with some countries, although it has been replaced by more modern vehicles in most armies.
