The T-62 is a Soviet main battle tank that was first introduced in 1961. It was a further development of the T-55 tank, with a new 115 mm smoothbore gun and a more powerful engine. The T-62 was designed to counter the new Western tanks, such as the M60 and the Leopard 1, that had better armor and firepower than the T-55.
The T-62 was widely exported to various countries, including Egypt, Syria, Iraq, Iran, North Korea, Cuba and Afghanistan. It saw combat in several wars and conflicts, such as the Six-Day War, the Yom Kippur War, the Iran-Iraq War and the Soviet-Afghan War. The T-62 is still in service with some countries, although it has been largely replaced by more modern tanks.
