General Characteristics
The Avibras TUPI 4×4 is a Light Wheeled Multi-Role Armoured Vehicle (VBMT-LR) developed by Brazil’s Avibras in partnership with France’s Renault Trucks Defense (now Arquus). It is based on the Renault Sherpa Light Scout vehicle. Designed for the Brazilian Army’s modernization efforts, the TUPI serves as a flexible platform for various tactical missions including patrol, convoy escort, troop transport, and reconnaissance. Its design emphasizes high payload capacity and modular armor to protect the crew against small arms fire, mines, and Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs). The vehicle is equipped with a Central Tyre Inflation System (CTIS) and run-flat devices to ensure high mobility across different terrains. [Image of a 4×4 light armoured vehicle]
