The KrAZ-255 is a three-axle off-road truck with six-wheel drive that was manufactured by KrAZ in Ukraine from 1967 to 1994. It was designed to replace the KrAZ-214, which was produced from 1956 to 1967. The KrAZ-255 has a V8 diesel engine with a displacement of 14.9 liters and a power output of 240 horsepower. The engine is the same as the one used in the MT-LB tracked armored personnel carrier. The truck has a manual transmission with five gears and three lockable differentials. The truck can reach a maximum speed of 71 km/h on road and has a range of 825 to 925 km depending on the terrain. The truck has a payload capacity of 7,825 kg and can tow up to 30 tons of trailers or artillery pieces.
The KrAZ-255 was used by various military and civilian organizations in the former Soviet Union and other countries. It was mainly used for transporting cargo, personnel, fuel, water, and equipment in harsh environments. It was also used as a platform for various special-purpose vehicles, such as mobile cranes, tankers, engineering vehicles, and radar systems. The KrAZ-255 was also exported to countries such as Bulgaria, Cuba, Georgia, India, Lebanon, North Korea, Poland, Russia, and Serbia. The KrAZ-255 was succeeded by the KrAZ-260 in 1979, which had a new braking system and a more powerful engine. The KrAZ-260 was produced until 1993 and was replaced by the KrAZ-6322 in 1994.
