General Characteristics (M28-05 Skytruck)
The PZL M28 Skytruck is a high-wing, twin-turboprop aircraft manufactured in Poland by PZL Mielec. Developed from the license-built Antonov An-28, the M28 is a “westernized” version known for its rugged construction, powerful engines, and exceptional Short Takeoff and Landing (STOL) capability, allowing it to operate reliably from unprepared runways, including grass, dirt, and high-altitude fields.

Design and Powerplant
- Engines: Two Pratt & Whitney Canada PT6A-65B turboprop engines.
- Power Output: 820 kW (1,100 shp) each.
- Propellers: Hartzell five-blade, fully feathering, reversible, constant-speed propellers.
- Landing Gear: Fixed, heavy-duty tricycle landing gear, reinforced for operation from rough and unprepared surfaces. The steerable nose wheel assists in ground maneuverability.
- Cargo Access: Features a unique rear clamshell door/ramp, which opens hydraulically or manually to facilitate easy and fast loading/unloading of bulky cargo and vehicles, or for air-dropping paratroopers and cargo.
- STOL Features: Equipped with leading-edge slats and powerful double-slotted flaps that deploy automatically near stall speed to enhance short-field performance and flight handling at low airspeeds.
Performance and Capabilities
- Max Cruise Speed: 355 km/h (192 knots, 221 mph).
- Maximum Range: Approximately 1,592 km (860 nautical miles) with reserves.
- Service Ceiling: 7,620 m (25,000 ft).
- Maximum Payload: 2,300 kg (5,070 lb).
- Takeoff Distance (to clear 50 ft obstacle): 550 m (1,800 ft) at maximum weight.
- Mission Versatility: The cabin can be quickly reconfigured (in about 7 minutes) for various roles, including:
- Passenger (19 seats)
- Cargo (with optional hoist and roller floor)
- Paratroop (17 seats)
- MEDEVAC (6 litters + seats)
