De BTR 60 is an armoured personnel carrier (APC) that was developed by the Soviet Union in the late 1950s. It was the first Soviet APC to have eight wheels and an independent suspension system, which improved its mobility and cross-country performance. The BTR 60 was also equipped with a 14.5 mm heavy machine gun and a 7.62 mm coaxial machine gun in a small turret, as well as two firing ports on each side of the hull.
De BTR 60 kon tot 14 soldaten vervoeren naast de bemanning van twee. De BTR 60 werd veel gebruikt door het Sovjetleger en zijn bondgenoten in verschillende conflicten over de hele wereld, zoals de oorlog in Vietnam, de Arabisch-Israëlische oorlogen, de Afghaanse oorlog en de Tsjetsjeense oorlogen. De BTR 60 werd ook geëxporteerd naar vele landen in Afrika, Azië en Latijns-Amerika. De BTR 60 werd later vervangen door meer geavanceerde modellen, zoals de BTR 70 en de BTR 80, maar sommige varianten zijn nog steeds in dienst.
