The M1126 ICV has a crew of two (driver and commander) and can carry nine infantry soldiers with their equipment. It has a four-wheel drive system that can be switched to an all-wheel drive system for improved mobility on rough terrain. It is powered by a Caterpillar C7 diesel engine that produces 350 horsepower, and can reach a maximum speed of 60 mph (97 km/h) on paved roads. It has a range of 310 miles (500 km) on a single tank of fuel.
The M1126 ICV has a modular armor system that can be upgraded with additional ceramic plates for enhanced protection against small arms fire and shrapnel. Some variants have also been fitted with a double V-hull design that improves survivability against mines and improvised explosive devices (IEDs). The vehicle has a remote weapon station that can mount either a .50 caliber M2 Browning machine gun, a 40 mm Mk 19 grenade launcher, or a 7.62 mm M240 machine gun. The weapon station can be operated by the commander from inside the vehicle, using a video camera and a joystick. The vehicle also has four M6 smoke grenade launchers for concealment.
The M1126 ICV is equipped with a digital communications system that allows it to exchange text messages and map data with other vehicles in the Stryker brigade combat team (SBCT). The system also enables the commander to mark enemy positions on the map, which can be seen by other commanders. The vehicle has a GPS navigation system, a thermal imaging system, and a laser rangefinder. The vehicle can also be fitted with various mission equipment packages, such as a mortar carrier, an anti-tank guided missile launcher, or a medical evacuation module.
