General Characteristics and Role
The Iveco LMV (Light Multirole Vehicle), often referred to by the Italian Army name Lince (“Lynx”), is a highly successful fourth-generation tactical armored vehicle. It was developed in the early 2000s to meet the demand for a highly mobile vehicle that provides superior protection against threats encountered in modern asymmetric warfare, particularly mines and Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs). The LMV is used for a wide variety of roles including reconnaissance, patrol, command and control, and transporting infantry. Its key design feature is its focus on crew survivability through a layered protection system, which has been rigorously tested and proven effective in combat operations across multiple theaters.

Service and Global Use
- Widespread Use: The LMV is one of the most successful European military vehicle exports, having been selected by over 14 countries, including the UK (where it is known as the Panther CLV), Spain, Russia, Austria, and Norway.
- Combat History: It has seen active service with NATO forces in Afghanistan, Lebanon, and Iraq, where its Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) characteristics significantly reduced troop casualties from roadside bombs.
- Evolution: Later versions and upgrades (like the LMV 2) focus on increasing payload capacity and integrating advanced communication and battlefield management systems.
