De redding van een somber onderwijssysteem kan het internet, de dvd en de interactieve cd-rom zijn. Thos set dvd's over de Eerste Wereldoorlog is daar een goed voorbeeld van. Als docent geschiedenis weet ik dat als je een leerling moet informeren, er een bepaalde hoeveelheid entertainment bij de feiten hoort. Deze set voldoet aan beide criteria. Dit is misschien niet de ultieme, diepgaande set dvd's over het onderwerp, maar het is een uitstekend begin. Het moet door studenten worden bekeken en vervolgens worden besproken. De schijven plaatsen deze oorlog in perspectief met andere gebeurtenissen in Europa ten tijde van de oorlog en in de decennia die eraan voorafgingen. De oorlog kwam immers niet uit de lucht vallen op een dag in Sarajevo.Maar dit is ook voor de volwassen student met zelfs een bescheiden interesse in geschiedenis.
