Adam Makos is journalist, historicus en redacteur van het militaire tijdschrift, Moed. In zijn vijftien jaar werk op militair gebied heeft Makos talloze veteranen uit de Tweede Wereldoorlog, Korea, Vietnam en hedendaagse oorlogen geïnterviewd. Hij heeft een B-17 bommenwerper gevlogen, een T-38 jager bij de luchtmacht, en was een van de weinige journalisten die het voorrecht had om Air Force One met zijn piloten te onderzoeken. Op zoek naar een verhaal ontmoette Makos presidenten, dronk thee met prins Charles en toerde met Amerikaanse troepen door de DMZ-grens in Korea. Het hoogtepunt van zijn werk vond plaats in 2008, toen Makos naar Irak reisde om de 101st Airborne and Army Special Forces te vergezellen op hun jacht op Al Qaida-terroristen.
