Lo SdKfz 171 Panzer V Panther era un carro armato medio utilizzato dall'esercito tedesco durante la seconda guerra mondiale, dal luglio 1943 durante la battaglia di Kursk fino all'8 maggio 1945. Progettato per contrastare il carro armato sovietico T-34 e sostituire i Panzer III e IV, il suo cannone Rheinmetall 7,5 cm KwK 42 L/70 sparava proiettili perforanti ad una velocità di 940 m / s e 1.120 m / s con il Panzergranate 40/42 con punta in tungsteno, in grado di perforare 106 mm di corazzatura a 2000 metri, prestazioni superiori al cannone da 8,8 cm KwK 36 L/56 del Tiger I.
