Viac info:

The Avro Anson was a versatile aircraft that served in various roles during and after the Second World War. It was designed by Roy Chadwick, the chief designer of Avro, as a development of the Avro 652 airliner. The Anson was named after Admiral George Anson, a British naval commander of the 18th century.
The Anson had a metal fuselage and wooden wings, and was powered by two Armstrong Siddeley Cheetah radial engines. It had a crew of four or five, and could carry bombs, depth charges, cameras, or passengers. The Anson was the first RAF aircraft to have retractable landing gear, which improved its aerodynamics and speed. The Anson entered service with the RAF in 1936, and was mainly used for coastal reconnaissance, patrol, and anti-submarine warfare. It also saw action in other theatres, such as the Mediterranean, the Middle East, and the Far East. The Anson proved to be reliable and adaptable, but also vulnerable to enemy fighters and flak. It was gradually replaced by more modern aircraft, such as the Lockheed Hudson and the Bristol Beaufighter.
The Anson’s most lasting contribution was as a trainer for multi-engine pilots, navigators, wireless operators, and gunners. It was widely used in the British Commonwealth Air Training Plan, which trained thousands of aircrew for the Allied war effort. The Anson remained in RAF service until 1968, and was also operated by many other air forces and civil operators around the world. Some Ansons were modified for various purposes, such as aerial survey, ambulance, or executive transport.
The Avro Anson was a remarkable aircraft that played an important role in aviation history. It was one of the most produced British aircraft of all time, with over 11,000 units built. It was also one of the longest serving RAF aircraft, with over 30 years of service. The Anson was a testament to the skill and vision of Roy Chadwick and his team at Avro.
