More info:

The M54 Guntruck was an improvised armored vehicle used by the US Army and Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. It was based on the M54 5-ton 6×6 cargo truck, which was the workhorse of the transport units. The M54 Guntruck had a steel or wooden compartment mounted on the truck bed, which housed one or more crew-served weapons, such as M60 or M2 machine guns, or even a minigun. The compartment was protected by sandbags, steel plates, or airfield landing mats. The M54 Guntruck provided security for convoys that were often ambushed by Viet Cong guerrillas on the roads and highways of South Vietnam. The M54 Guntruck crews displayed courage and innovation in modifying and improving their vehicles according to their needs and skills. Some of them received medals of honor for their heroism in combat.
