The PZL TS-11 Iskra is a Polish jet trainer aircraft that was designed and produced by the PZL Mielec company. It is the first Polish-designed jet aircraft to enter service and the only one to be mass-produced. The TS-11 Iskra has been used by the Polish Air Force since 1964 as a basic and advanced trainer, as well as a light attack and reconnaissance aircraft. It has also been exported to India, Bangladesh and Nigeria.
The TS-11 Iskra is a low-wing monoplane with a tricycle landing gear and a single turbojet engine mounted in the rear fuselage. It has a tandem cockpit with ejection seats for the instructor and the student pilot. The aircraft is equipped with a basic avionics suite, including a radio, a transponder, an artificial horizon, an altimeter, an airspeed indicator and a turn-and-bank indicator. The TS-11 Iskra can carry up to 300 kg of external stores on four hardpoints under the wings, such as bombs, rockets, gun pods or fuel tanks.
The TS-11 Iskra has a maximum speed of 720 km/h at sea level and 800 km/h at 5,000 m. It has a service ceiling of 11,000 m and a range of 1,000 km with internal fuel or 1,500 km with external tanks. The TS-11 Iskra has a length of 11.15 m, a wingspan of 10.06 m and a height of 3.50 m. It has an empty weight of 2,280 kg and a maximum takeoff weight of 3,800 kg. The TS-11 Iskra is powered by a SO-1 turbojet engine that produces 9.8 kN of thrust.
