Meer info:

The Dornier Do-228 is a twin-turboprop aircraft that was designed and manufactured by the German company Dornier from 1981 to 1998. It is a utility aircraft that can perform various roles such as passenger transport, cargo transport, maritime patrol, environmental monitoring and search and rescue. The Dornier Do-228 has a high-wing configuration with a supercritical wing design that reduces drag and improves fuel efficiency. It also has a retractable tricycle landing gear and a T-tail. The Dornier Do-228 can carry up to 19 passengers or 2.7 tons of cargo and has a range of up to 2,700 km. It can operate from short and rough airstrips, making it suitable for remote areas.
The Dornier Do-228 was initially produced in Germany, where 245 units were built. In 1983, the Indian company Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) acquired a production license and started manufacturing the Dornier Do-228 in India, where 125 units have been built so far. The Dornier Do-228 has been used by various civil and military operators around the world, especially in Asia, Africa and Europe. Some of the main users include the Indian Air Force, the Indian Coast Guard, the Indian Navy, the German Navy, the Royal Thai Navy and the Japanese Coast Guard.
In 2009, the Swiss company RUAG revived the production of the Dornier Do-228 under the name Dornier 228 New Generation. This version features some improvements such as a new five-blade propeller, a glass cockpit and a longer range. The fuselage, wings and tail are still manufactured by HAL in India and shipped to Germany for final assembly by RUAG. The first delivery of the Dornier 228 New Generation was made in 2010 to a Japanese operator. In 2020, RUAG sold the Dornier 228 program to the American company General Atomics.
