Daugiau informacijos:

The Petlyakov Pe-2 was a versatile and effective twin-engine dive bomber that served the Soviet Union during World War II. Designed by Vladimir Petlyakov, who was imprisoned by Stalin in 1937, the Pe-2 was originally intended as a high-altitude interceptor, but was modified to become a bomber in response to the German blitzkrieg. The Pe-2 had a pressurized cabin, electrically operated flaps, and aerodynamic brakes that allowed it to perform steep dives and accurate bombing runs. It also had a respectable defensive armament of five machine guns and could carry up to 1,200 kg of bombs or rockets. The Pe-2 was fast, maneuverable, and reliable, and became the most numerous Soviet bomber of the war, with over 11,000 built. It also proved successful as a heavy fighter, a night fighter, and a reconnaissance aircraft. The Pe-2 was used by several communist air forces after the war, and was given the NATO reporting name Buck.
