Le Northrop/McDonnell Douglas YF-23 (en) était un démonstrateur américain de technologie d’avion de chasse furtif bimoteur monoplace conçu pour l’US Force aérienne (USAF). Le design a été finaliste à l’USAF’s Advanced Tactical Fighter (ATF) concurrence, luttant contre le Lockheed YF-22 pour un contrat de production. Deux prototypes YF-23 ont été construits, surnommés « Veuve Noire II » Et « Fantôme gris ».

Lla Northrop YF-23 was a prototype fighter aircraft designed by Northrop Corporation for the United States Air Force’du programme Advanced Tactical Fighter (ATF). Le YF-23 était en concurrence avec le Lockheed YF-22 pour le contrat de production du chasseur de supériorité aérienne de nouvelle génération pour l’USAF. Le YF-23 était un avion furtif, bimoteur, biempennage avec une aile en forme de diamant et une queue en forme de V. Le YF-23 avait deux variantes: une avec des moteurs Pratt & Whitney YF119 et une avec des moteurs General Electric YF120.
The YF-23 flew for the first time on August 27, 1990, and completed six test flights before the ATF program was concluded in April 1991. The USAF selected the YF-22 as the winner of the ATF competition, and the YF-23 program was canceled. The two YF-23 (en) prototypes were retired and sent to museums, where they remain on display to this day.
