The VBTP-MR Guarani is a 6×6 armoured personnel carrier that was developed by Iveco and the Brazilian Army to replace the outdated EE-11 Urutu. The Guarani is a modular and amphibious vehicle that can be fitted with different weapons, sensors and communications systems. The Guarani is part of a larger modernization program that aims to create a new family of medium wheeled armoured vehicles for the Brazilian Army. The program also includes variants such as infantry fighting vehicle, command post, ambulance and fire support. The Guarani has a crew of three and can carry eight passengers.
It is powered by an Iveco Cursor 9 diesel engine that gives it a maximum speed of 110 km/h and a range of 600 km. The Guarani has a basic armour protection of STANAG 4569 Level 2, which can be upgraded with add-on armour modules up to Level 4. The Guarani can be armed with various turrets, such as the UT-30BR with a 30 mm autocannon, the REMAX with a 12.7 mm machine gun or the REMAN with a 7.62 mm machine gun.
