The borders of Italy are mountainous terrain, so the Italian army has always had an interest in mountain artillery. However, by the 1930s much of Italy’s mountain artillery was obsolescent and overdue for replacement. In 1934, the Italian firm of Ansaldo produced a new mountain howitzer design, the Obice da 75/18 modello 34, entworfen von Oberstleutnant Sergio Berlese, der in der italienischen Artillerie diente.

Weitere Informationen:

The Obice da 75/18 modello 35 was a 75 mm howitzer designed and manufactured by the Italian company Ansaldo in the interwar period. It was a modified version of the Obice da 75/18 modello 34, a mountain gun used by the Italian alpine troops. The modello 35 had a split trail instead of a box trail, and could not be broken down into smaller loads for transport. It was intended to be the standard light howitzer for the Italian infantry divisions in World War II.
The Obice da 75/18 modello 35 had a barrel length of 1.557 m and a maximum range of 9,564 m. It fired a 6.4 kg high-explosive shell with a muzzle velocity of 425 m/s. The gun had an elevation range of -10° to +45° and a traverse range of 50°. The Obice da 75/18 modello 35 was also mounted on some self-propelled guns, such as the Semovente 75/18, where it proved to be effective against enemy tanks with its HEAT ammunition. The Obice da 75/18 modello 35 was sold to some foreign countries, such as Portugal, El Salvador and Venezuela, and captured by the Allies during the war.
