Es wurde von dem sowjetischen Artillerie-Designer M.N. Loginov nach der Verhaftung und Hinrichtung des ehemaligen Designers V. von Behring geschaffen. Aufgrund unzureichender Panzerung wurde es im Einsatz durch das langgestreckte 45-mm-Panzergewehr M1942 (M-42) ersetzt.
