Flere oplysninger:

Den FV107 Scimitar is a light armoured reconnaissance vehicle used by the British Army and the Royal Air Force Regiment. It was developed in the 1960s as a variant of the FV101 Scorpion, with a 30 mm RARDEN cannon instead of a 76 mm gun. The Scimitar has a crew of three: a driver, a commander and a gunner. It can reach speeds of up to 80 km/h on roads and 50 km/h cross-country. It has an operational range of 450 km and can be transported by air.
The Scimitar is designed to provide fire support and reconnaissance for armoured and infantry units. It has a low profile and high mobility, making it suitable for operating in various terrains and environments. The Scimitar is equipped with a thermal imaging system, a laser rangefinder and a smoke grenade launcher for self-defence. The Scimitar can also mount additional equipment such as a bulldozer blade, a mine plough or an explosive reactive armour kit.
The Scimitar has been in service since 1971 and has seen action in various conflicts such as the Falklands War, the Gulf War, the Iraq War and the War in Afghanistan. The Scimitar is due to be replaced by the Ajax armoured fighting vehicle as part of the Future Rapid Effect System programme.

En tanke om "FV107 Scimitar – Billeder & Videoer"

  1. Nice photos, but I hate to be really picky, but it’s not a Scimitar. This version shown is actually a Sabre, which was put together using the hull from a Scorpion, which were decommisioned due to a fume toxicity problem from the 76mm gun. They then added the turret from the Fox CVR(W) armoured car. The main differences from the Scimitar were a slightly different stowage bin configuration, and the fitting of a 7.62mm Hughes chain gun instead of the L7 GPMG as a turret mounted co-axial machine gun. When the CVR(T) dieselisation programme was introduced, the Sabre, for some reason, was not included. They remained with the 4.2 Lt Jaguar engine and were mainly sold off by the MOD. Hope this hel[ps
