Fotogalleri av en Dassault Etendard IV M, The Dassault Étendard IV was a subsonic carrier-borne strike fighter aircraft, which entered service with the French Navy in 1962. It served as the basis for the more advanced Dassault-Breguet Super Étendard. During the 1970s, it had been intended to replace the Étendard IV with a navalised version of the SEPECAT Jaguar, designated as the Jaguar M, however development of the Jaguar M was cancelled and shortly replaced by the Super Étendard. The Étendard IV was progressively withdrawn during the 1980s and finally retired from service with its sole operator in 1991. The Dassault Etendard IV M is a French carrier-based fighter-bomber that was developed in the late 1950s and entered service in 1962. It was designed to perform various missions, such as air superiority, ground attack, reconnaissance, and nuclear strike. The Etendard IV M was equipped with a single SNECMA Atar 8B turbojet engine, which gave it a maximum speed of Mach 1.4 and a range of 1,500 km. The aircraft had a swept-wing configuration and a tailless delta design, which improved its maneuverability and stability at high speeds.
The Etendard IV M could carry a variety of weapons, including cannons, rockets, bombs, missiles, and nuclear bombs. It also had a radar and an infrared sensor for navigation and targeting. The Etendard IV M served with the French Navy until 1991, when it was replaced by the Dassault Super Etendard. It participated in several conflicts, such as the Suez Crisis, the Algerian War, the Six-Day War, the Yom Kippur War, and the Gulf War. The Etendard IV M was also exported to Argentina and India, where it saw combat in the Falklands War and the Indo-Pakistani War of 1971.
