The FV721 Fox CVR (Combat Vehicle Reconnaissance) is a British armoured car that was developed in the 1970s as a replacement for the Ferret scout car. The Fox is based on the chassis of the FV432 armoured personnel carrier, but with a smaller and lighter aluminium hull. The main armament of the Fox is a 30 mm L21 RARDEN cannon, which can fire armour-piercing or high-explosive rounds. The Fox also has a 7.62 mm coaxial machine gun and two smoke grenade launchers. The Fox has a crew of three: a driver, a commander and a gunner.
The Fox was designed to perform reconnaissance and fire support missions in support of infantry and armoured units. The Fox has a high mobility and speed, thanks to its Rolls-Royce B81 petrol engine and its eight-wheel drive. The Fox can also swim across water obstacles using a flotation screen and propellers. The Fox has a low profile and a good range of vision, which makes it suitable for stealthy operations.
