The ASU-57 was a Soviet airborne assault gun that entered service in 1951. It was designed to be air-dropped with the paratroopers and provide them with fire support and anti-tank capability. The ASU-57 was armed with a 57 mm Ch-51M gun, which was a modified version of the ZiS-2 anti-tank gun. The ASU-57 had very thin armour, only 6 mm at most, and no roof protection. It was very light and agile, but also vulnerable to any enemy fire. The ASU-57 saw combat in several wars, such as the Six-Day War and the Ogaden War, but was gradually replaced by the more powerful ASU-85 in the 1960s.
