USS Midway (CVB/CVA/CV-41) était un porte-avions de l’United States Navy, le navire de tête de sa classe. Mis en service une semaine après la fin de la Seconde Guerre mondiale, le Midway était le plus grand navire du monde jusqu’en 1955, ainsi que le premier porte-avions américain trop gros pour transiter par le canal de Panama. Une conception de coque révolutionnaire, basée sur le cuirassé de classe Montana prévu, lui a donné une protection accrue par rapport aux porte-avions précédents. Il a opéré pendant 47 ans, au cours desquels il a participé à la guerre du Vietnam et a servi de navire amiral du golfe Persique en 1991.’s Opération Tempête du désert. Désarmé en 1992, il est maintenant un navire-musée au USS Midway Museum, à San Diego, en Californie, et le seul porte-avions américain restant mis en service juste après la fin de la Seconde Guerre mondiale qui n’était pas un porte-avions de classe Essex.
